October Duck Details with Dixie Fowl Company
Before every duck season, I like to get out on the water and see what we’re working with, so last October I loaded up my aluminum duck boat, fired up the 25 hp Yamaha tiller handle, and headed out on the lake to scout. The goal was simple: check water levels in my duck holes, find out what access was still available, and see whether there were many local ducks around. Low water can make or break a hole, and a quick run with a shallow-draft aluminum boat tells you in an hour what you could spend all week guessing at. I covered the creek channels and backwater pockets, noted which spots I could still get into, and kept my eyes on the sky for local birds. Out there in the morning chill, I wore my Dixie Fowl Company Tennessee Woodie Field Series Rope Hat, and it’s become my go-to Tennessee hunting hat for scouting days and opening morning alike. This patch rope hat is a nod to Southern tradition, with its classic rope detail, our wood duck patch up front, and a rugged style that looks right at home in a duck boat. Scouting trips like this one are part of what makes duck season special, and a good hat on your head makes the early start a little easier.
